From late June to early August you can meet people from all over the world at the University in Oslo’s International Summer School.

Through studying and living with fellow students from different countries you will have a unique cultural experience, and at the same time learn about human rights.

The master’s course in human rights is one of the courses offered at the International Summer School. The course focuses on human rights in theory and practice and the students will develop knowledge about human rights from both legal and social perspectives.

A unique experience
Philip Pongrac from Slovenia attended the Human Rights course last summer together with 16 students from South and North America, Africa, Asia and Europe. He describes the experience as unforgettable.

"The summer school was amazing and it will stay with each of us as a unique experience", he writes in the Slovenian Amnesty International magazine, Amnesty Action.

Through the course different challenges for implementing human rights in different parts of the world are highlighted and examined, and principles of human rights relating to terrorism, religion, ethnicity, indigenous peoples, transitional justice, gender and development are studied.

Different perspectives
Philip particularly emphasises the value of having participants from all over the world when studying human rights.

"The cultural and geographical diversity, and the personal experience of the participants gave a very valuable insight to the practice and theory of human rights. This helped us to understand the role of human rights through many different views", he writes.

The International Summer School welcomes nearly 600 students from 100 different countries each year. In 2012 it will be held from June 23 to August 3.

Here you can apply for the 2012 International Summer School.
